From the President

May 27, 2022

It has been my privilege to witness the extraordinary evolution of the Eagle River Historical Society (ERHS) over the past ten years. There was a time when this organization served primarily as a repository of artifacts related to the Eagle River area. As the steward of our local history, ERHS realized that the stories associated with these photographs, letters, family albums, business and property artifacts were the real treasures of preservation that bind together the places, experiences and people who live in the Northwoods, past and present.

In promoting those stories, ERHS is increasingly finding ways to bring Eagle River area history alive. ERHS shares our history in innovative ways via interactive displays in its two museums, educational presentations, school programming, social media platforms and historic home tours, to name a few. In speaking with the Wisconsin Historical Society, the ERHS is frequently referred to as one of the finest rural historical societies in the state.

The Eagle River Historical Society is now positioned to significantly contribute to the economic development of the region and the quality of the experience for area residents, seasonal homeowners and visitors alike. The organization has embarked on a bold and exciting agenda of dynamic programming and strategic initiatives. To that end, it has determined the need for professional staff and an expanded Board of Directors.

The board is pleased to announce that Karen Sailer has been hired as our first Executive Director. Her demonstrated leadership and initiative on the board over many years has positioned her well to steer us in this transition. We will search for a longer-term Executive Director in the future.

I have moved into the President position on the Board of Directors and we look forward to adding additional board members in September. We are excited to begin operation within this new leadership model to assure a dynamic future and long-term sustainability for the Eagle River Historical Society.
